Experience
Coding is hard, and doing it alone as a beginner often results in intense frustration and discouragement. I like to help students at these early stages - when concepts are murky and nothing seems to be working. With guidance and clarification from someone who once also struggled with code, that frustration will dissolve and programs will start running. I tutor because I enjoy guiding students along the path from confusion to clarity. I have tutored over the past three years while working as a software developer in the Bay area. My approach to tutoring is patient, attentive, and spiked with lighthearted humor. Former students describe me as approachable and and understanding. The capacity of my students to learn and showcase their talent routinely impresses me and keeps me coming back to the trade. I can help if you want to: -Improve exam or assignment scores for high school or college -Complete pre-work for coding bootcamps -Learn coding from an online course -Realize a personal project -Improve debugging skills -Understand something that always confused you I have experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students, as well as adults. I am not a disciplinarian; I work with students who are struggling but not those who have no motivation to improve. Students typically see me for 3-6 hours per week, though I do offer more frequent lessons. Also, because I teach general debugging skills, design, and problem solving strategies, students need my help less frequently as they learn to work independently. This is not the the best business model for me, but I am confident it produces the best developers (and assignment grades and test scores). I tutor online via Skype, Hangouts, or other video chat platform of the student's choice. Some first-time clients are skeptical of the online format, but across the board they come to appreciate it as effective. I urge you to consider video chat tutoring. Using the "screen share" feature the student and I are able to look at the same code in real time and edit together. I've found it's easier than the student and the teacher wrestling over one keyboard during in-person lessons. My regular rate for paid lessons is $40/hr. Please message me and we can schedule our first meeting. If you are not satisfied with the instruction or you decide I am not the right tutor for you, there is no charge!
